On-The-Road with Safe Gluten Free and Food Allergy Snacks

6/25/2014

Finding no mess snacks to pack for a road trip, flight or cruise while eating gluten free or managing food allergies can be a bit challenging at times. Here are a few ideas that can be easily packed and carried with you anywhere depending upon your food concerns:

  • Fresh/dried fruits and vegetables
  • Protein and energy bars
  • Nuts and trail mixes
  • Allergy-friendly cereals, breads, crackers & cookies
  • Packaged meats for sandwiches
  • Chips and candy
  • Packaged salad dressings & sauces
Since I personally manage celiac disease and food allergies, I always make sure to have a mix of protein and carbohydrates with me while on-to-road. I also bring enough food to get to my destination while taking into account potential travel delays.

Some of my favorite, travel-size gluten free and dairy free snacks include:

  • Protein bars
  • Protein mixes
  • Applegate roasted turkey on toasted gluten free  bread in a Ziploc bag
  • Snyder’s gluten free pretzels in individual bags
  • Single-serve peanut butter or hazelnut butter (great on celery sticks, thin rice cakes and pretzels)
Also, always be sure to read product labels diligently to ensure that ingredients have not changed and the snacks are safe for you to eat based upon your allergies.

I hope you enjoy safe snacks wherever your life may take you!
