Here's the backstory: Kelsey Minarik founded RejuvaHealth after a blood clot after a long flight. She was only 22 years old at the time. Here's some info on deep vein thrombosis. It's no joke. Check out the info below courtesy of http://www.medicinenet.com.
- A tendency to form blood clots can occur when people are immobile, have a blood tendency toward clotting, or have injury to veins or their adjacent tissues. A blood clot (thrombus) in the deep venous system of the leg becomes dangerous when a piece of the blood clot breaks off (embolus, plural = emboli), travels downstream through the heart into the pulmonary circulation system, and becomes lodged in the lung.
- Older age (risk increases after age 40)
- Obesity (body mass index [BMI] greater than 30kg/m2)
- Recent surgery or injury (within 3 months)
- Use of estrogen-containing contraceptives (for example, birth control pills, rings, patches)
- Hormone replacement therapy (medical treatment in which hormones are given to reduce the effects of menopause)
- Pregnancy and the postpartum period (up to 6 weeks after childbirth)
- Previous blood clot or a family history of blood clots
- Active cancer or recent cancer treatment
- Limited mobility (for example, a leg cast)
- Catheter placed in a large vein
- Varicose veins
