When you hear compression socks, you might think of those unfashionable medical socks worn by older folks for a variety of ailments.  Here's a line of compression socks that are fashionable and functional with health benefits for travelers of all ages.  Graduated compression provide support to tired achey legs for for everyone from road warriors to pregnant women to driven athletes.

Here's the backstory: Kelsey Minarik founded RejuvaHealth after a blood clot after a long flight. She was only 22 years old at the time. Here's some info on deep vein thrombosis. It's no joke. Check out the info below courtesy of http://www.medicinenet.com.
  • A tendency to form blood clots can occur when people are immobile, have a blood tendency toward clotting, or have injury to veins or their adjacent tissues. A blood clot (thrombus) in the deep venous system of the leg becomes dangerous when a piece of the blood clot breaks off (embolus, plural = emboli), travels downstream through the heart into the pulmonary circulation system, and becomes lodged in the lung.
And here is what the Center for Disease Control had to say: Most information about blood clots and long-distance travel comes from information that has been gathered about air travel. However, anyone traveling more than four hours, whether by air, car, bus, or train, can be at risk for blood clots.  Most people who develop travel-associated blood clots have one or more other risks for blood clots, such as:
  • Older age (risk increases after age 40)
  • Obesity (body mass index [BMI] greater than 30kg/m2)
  • Recent surgery or injury (within 3 months)
  • Use of estrogen-containing contraceptives (for example, birth control pills, rings, patches)
  • Hormone replacement therapy (medical treatment in which hormones are given to reduce the effects of menopause)
  • Pregnancy and the postpartum period (up to 6 weeks after childbirth)
  • Previous blood clot or a family history of blood clots
  • Active cancer or recent cancer treatment
  • Limited mobility (for example, a leg cast)
  • Catheter placed in a large vein
  • Varicose veins
RejuvaHealth offers knee highs, pantyhose, leggings and stockings for men and women that fashionable and also medical grade socks. For more info: www.rejuvahealth.com
